CBAHI's dental standards are the National Standards for Dental Centers, First Edition 2022, which Saudi Arabia's national accreditation body uses to survey public and private dental centres. That is the edition CBAHI's own standards page still listed in April 2025, and a 2013 Cabinet decree made CBAHI accreditation mandatory for all healthcare facilities.
This guide is for dental directors, clinic owners and the quality coordinators who prepare a dental centre for its CBAHI survey.
Which edition of the CBAHI dental centre standards applies?
The current dental manual is the first edition, issued in 2022. CBAHI's standards download page named it "National Standards for Dental Centers (First Edition 2022)" in an archived copy from September 2022 and again in one from April 2025. No later edition appears on any CBAHI page we could read.
The dental programme is younger than CBAHI's hospital programme, which is on its 3rd edition. It is also separate from the ambulatory care programme. CBAHI publishes a distinct accreditation status list for dental centres, apart from its lists for hospitals, primary care centres and outpatient medical centres.
We could not reach cbahi.gov.sa to confirm the position after April 2025. Before you start a gap analysis, ask CBAHI which edition your survey will use and whether any modified standards have been issued since.
Is CBAHI accreditation mandatory for dental centres?
Yes, in principle. CBAHI's overview page (archived June 2025) says a late-2013 Cabinet decree mandated CBAHI accreditation for all public and private healthcare facilities. The same page says the Ministry of Health makes CBAHI accreditation a prerequisite for renewing a facility's licence.
Keep the two roles apart. The Ministry of Health licenses a dental centre to operate. CBAHI surveys it and grants or refuses accreditation. A dental centre needs both, and its accreditation status feeds into the licence renewal.
CBAHI's accreditation policies page, archived in September 2025, places dental centres under its outpatient medical centres section. That section covers medical complexes and centres giving specialised outpatient care. In practice, a dental complex inside a wider polyclinic should confirm with CBAHI which programme its survey falls under.
Where can you get the CBAHI dental standards PDF?
From CBAHI, and it is not free. The April 2025 copy of the standards page priced one copy of a national standard at SAR 375 (US$100). The buyer pays by bank transfer to CBAHI, uploads the receipt and registers on the download page.
CBAHI's terms forbid reproducing the standards without its written permission. Buy the manual from CBAHI and keep it as a controlled document, so every department works from the same text.

What do CBAHI's recent dental survey results show?
CBAHI's dental centres accreditation status list, dated 20 March 2025, covers survey visits from May 2024 to February 2025. It lists 36 dental centres across the regions. Of those, 27 were accredited and 9 were unaccredited, with the decision recorded as a denial.
Three points in the list matter for planning. Each accreditation runs for three years from its date, for example June 2024 to June 2027. CBAHI also says conditional accreditation does not mean a centre is accredited. It means the centre must submit a corrective action plan for its areas of non-compliance.
The list notes that centres not shown are scheduled for a survey visit. Both private and government centres appear on it. One denial in four is a reminder that the survey tests the system in use, not the binder on the shelf.
Which records should a dental centre have ready?
Dental care packs several high-risk processes into a small clinic. Instruments are reprocessed many times a day, imaging is routine, and treatment often runs over several visits. The table sets out the records we would expect a surveyor to ask about. It is AGS's practical interpretation, not CBAHI's wording, so check every row against your copy of the manual.

Surveyors usually test whether daily practice matches the written procedure. A sterilisation procedure is weak evidence if the load records have gaps. Audit your own records for a full month before the visit, and close each gap with a dated corrective action.

How long does CBAHI dental accreditation last?
Three years, going by CBAHI's dental status list of March 2025. Every accredited centre on that list has an end date three years after its accreditation date.
Can a dental centre be accredited with open findings?
Not fully. CBAHI states that conditional accreditation is not accreditation. The centre must first submit a corrective action plan for the non-compliant areas.
Does buying documentation mean the centre will be accredited?
No. Documents are a starting point. Accreditation depends on how the system is implemented and on CBAHI's survey findings.
Are government dental centres surveyed too?
Yes. The March 2025 status list includes specialised dental centres run by the government in several regions, alongside private clinics and complexes.
