Key requirements include an empowered destination management body, a multi-year sustainability strategy, stakeholder engagement, monitoring systems, visitor management, risk and crisis planning, and mechanisms to manage tourism's cumulative impacts. Because it rests on the GSTC Criteria, the framework integrates with broader sustainability agendas including the Sustainable Development Goals and complements enterprise-level standards applied by hotels and tour operators within the destination.
