Overview

A Halal Assurance System for processed food manufacturing under Malaysia's JAKIM framework — the Department of Islamic Development — and standards such as MS 1500, aimed where formulation complexity makes ingredient control decisive. Every raw material, additive, enzyme, flavouring and processing aid carries a documented approval, and the difficult cases are those a specification sheet hides: gelatine, emulsifiers, rennet and carrier solvents. Alcohol, porcine and other prohibited derivatives are excluded by specification, and reformulation sits under change control.

On the floor, the controls are scheduling and separation. Production is sequenced between Halal and non-Halal runs with validated cleaning and line clearance in between, and sertu, the cleansing that follows severe najs contamination, is a defined procedure with its own record. Ethanol is handled analytically, through laboratory analysis requests, results and content verification against materials and finished goods. Traceability runs from ingredient lot to finished product, labelling is reconciled against approved artwork, and an internal Halal committee sustains the training, audits and corrective actions JAKIM assessors work through.

What this system covers

  • Ingredient and processing aid approval — Halal status documented for materials, additives, enzymes, flavourings and carriers, including hidden sources such as gelatine and rennet
  • Ethanol control and laboratory analysis — analysis requests, results and content verification for materials and finished product
  • Reformulation and change control — approval before a specification, supplier or carrier solvent changes
  • Production scheduling and line conversion — Halal and non-Halal runs sequenced with validated cleaning and line clearance
  • Packaging, labelling and traceability — label approval and reconciliation, batch control from ingredient lot to dispatch
  • Sanitation, internal audit and readiness — sertu after severe najs contact, MS 1500:2019 audit, laboratory compliance review

Who it's for

Technical, QA and Halal executives in manufacturers running multi-ingredient formulations, where a single undeclared enzyme or carrier solvent is the entire risk. Buyers arrive when applying for JAKIM certification, preparing for surveillance, or facing a customer that demands evidence of ingredient-level control. They finish with an approval discipline for materials, a cleaning and scheduling regime between runs, and a laboratory trail on ethanol.
