Overview
Animal food has its own FDA rule and its own boundary questions. Is the facility a qualified facility, or exempt? How does a human food facility that also makes animal food fit in? Do medicated feed rules apply? This system answers those questions first, then builds the hazard analysis and preventive controls on top.
Process programmes cover extrusion, pelleting, drying and thermal processing. Product modules cover raw, wet and canned, and frozen pet food, treats and chews, with medicated feed screening and state feed registration. The raw pet food module deals with products that have no kill step. Illustrative models cover dog, cat, puppy and kitten foods, treats, jerky, dental chews and premixes, and poultry, turkey, swine, horse and fish feeds, mineral mixes and protein supplements. Feed for ruminants such as cattle, sheep and goats is out of scope.
The files map 21 CFR Part 507 by section, and the reference library asks you to check each citation against the eCFR. 21 CFR Part 225 and the Veterinary Feed Directive are used for medicated feed screening, and AAFCO model regulations and state feed laws as an applicability framework only. AGS is independent and is not affiliated with the FDA or AAFCO. Regulations are referenced by citation, and no regulation text is included.

U.S. pet food and non-ruminant animal feed manufacturers, processors, packers and holders subject to Part 507, including companion animal, livestock and aquaculture feed businesses. Consultants and technical service providers who support animal food facilities can work from the same set.
For Codex-based systems, see the HACCP Pet Food Management System and the HACCP Animal Feed Management System. Makers of specialty feed ingredients may also look at the FAMI-QS Management System.
