Overview
A halal certificate depends on people who may never read a standard: the receiver who accepts a delivery, the operator who cleans a line, the packer who applies a label. If they do not know what halal means or how it is lost, the system relies on luck. This course gives every member of staff the basics, with no prior knowledge needed.
The package holds a slide deck with detailed speaker notes, a trainee workbook with a glossary of Arabic terms and a personal action plan, an exam pack with a question bank and answer keys, and a certificate template. The certificate records training given by your organisation and states that it is not a halal certification.
The course refers to GSO 2055-1:2015, GSO 993:2015 and OIC/SMIIC 1:2019, and shows where GSO 993 and OIC/SMIIC 1 differ on slaughterer eligibility and stunning. Other national halal standards appear in a landscape table. Standards are referenced by number and title only, and no standard text is included. AGS is independent and is not affiliated with any halal certification body or standards organisation.
What this course covers
- Why halal matters: what is at stake for the site and its customers.
- The language of halal: halal, haram, mashbooh, najis and the terms used for slaughter, with a glossary in the workbook.
- Sources: halal and non-halal sources of ingredients and materials.
- Slaughter basics: the essentials, and where the two standards differ.
- Protecting halal in the plant: segregation, cleansing and labelling, including how to read a real label and the stop, segregate and report routine.
- The staff role: what each person does day to day, and how halal certification works at the site.
Who it's for
All staff at food sites that hold or are preparing for halal certification, from production and warehouse to cleaning and purchasing. It suits sites serving GCC and UAE markets and export sites.
It pairs with our halal management system kits, which document the requirements a site has to meet for halal certification. Staff who evaluate ingredients can go on to the Halal Critical Ingredients & Product Evaluation Training Package.
