IFS Logistics is a certification standard covering logistics activities for both food and non-food products, including transport, storage, distribution, loading and unloading, and associated handling operations. It applies to companies that provide logistics services along the supply chain, whether for frozen, chilled or ambient products, and bridges the gap between manufacturing and the customer by ensuring that safety and quality are maintained while goods are in transit or storage. The Standard is structured in line with the wider IFS portfolio, addressing senior management responsibility and governance, a quality and product safety management system based on hazard analysis and risk assessment, resource management, the operational processes of receiving, storing, transporting and delivering products, and measurement, analysis and improvement including internal audit, corrective action and management review. It also covers traceability, product defence, fraud mitigation, temperature and condition control, and management of any additional or outsourced services, ensuring that logistics providers can demonstrate control over the integrity of the products they handle. As part of the IFS family, IFS Logistics is designed to complement IFS Food, IFS Broker and other schemes, providing continuity of assurance across the supply chain, and IFS standards are recognised within the GFSI framework where benchmarked. Certification is performed by approved certification bodies through a third-party audit using the IFS scoring approach with knock-out criteria, and certificates are valid for a defined period subject to renewal auditing.
