UAE.S HAS - Processed Foods

Overview

Formulation complexity is what makes processed food manufacturing demanding to certify: one recipe can carry additives, enzymes, flavourings and processing aids that each raise an origin question. This documentation set applies the Halal Assurance System of the United Arab Emirates national Halal scheme, based on the UAE.S adoption of the GSO 2055 framework, coordinated through the Emirati standardisation and conformity authorities and keeping UAE requirements aligned with the wider Gulf system while national regulatory oversight remains.

Every raw material, additive, enzyme, flavouring and processing aid is approved on record. Alcohol, porcine and other prohibited derivatives are excluded, with attention to hidden sources such as gelatine, emulsifiers, rennet and carrier solvents. Reformulation runs through change control rather than informally. Production scheduling and validated cleaning govern the boundary between Halal and non-Halal runs, and traceability holds from ingredient lot to finished product. Screening follows an Annex 1 ingredient checklist alongside UAE.S GSO 2055-1:2015 and UAE.S 993:2022 for ingredients of animal origin, while the internal Halal committee approves suppliers, audits, trains and closes corrective actions between external assessments.

What this system covers

  • Ingredient screening against Annex 1, covering additives, enzymes, flavourings, processing aids and carriers
  • Hidden animal-derived sources such as gelatine, emulsifiers and rennet, verified to permissible origin
  • Supplier approval, incoming verification and ingredient Halal risk assessment
  • Formulation, cooking and production control, with change control over reformulation
  • Production scheduling, segregation and validated cleaning between Halal and non-Halal runs
  • Labelling and source declaration control for finished packs
  • Traceability from ingredient lot to finished product, and product recall
  • Food hygiene and GMP with daily production checks, internal Halal audit and corrective action

Who it's for

Food manufacturers applying for Halal certification for the UAE and GCC market, or answering a retailer or importer that wants an assured position on every ingredient. Technical managers and Halal committee members populate the system with their own formulations, suppliers and cleaning validations, and reach the assessment with ingredient decisions written down and evidenced.
