Overview
The BRCGS Global Standard for Food Safety, Issue 9 is a GFSI-benchmarked scheme covering the safety, legality and quality of food from manufacturers and processors in every product category, and required by retailers and brand owners across the UK, Europe and beyond. This system builds what the Standard assumes is already running: senior management commitment, a documented HACCP plan aligned with Codex Alimentarius principles, and the quality management system underpinning both.
Requirements split into fundamental clauses, where non-conformity can prevent certification, and detailed sections on site standards, product control, process control and personnel, including high-risk, high-care and ambient high-care production zones. Issue 9 presses harder on food safety culture, product authenticity and food fraud defence, and environmental monitoring, while keeping the AA+ to D grading scale and the announced or unannounced audit options. Certification comes from a body accredited to ISO/IEC 17065, valid twelve months on an annual re-audit cycle.
