Overview

A recall is decided in hours and judged for months. The first calls, the information gathered, the notices sent and the stock recovered all leave a record that a regulator and customers will read. This course prepares the people who will be in the room when that happens.

The recall classes and the four action types (recall, correction, market withdrawal and stock recovery) follow the U.S. FDA recall model in 21 CFR Part 7, and the notes tell the trainer to check the local food authority's recall procedure. The tabletop simulation gives the team new information as the exercise runs, through injects set out in the workbook. The workbook also holds templates for a recall plan skeleton, a recall notice and an effectiveness check log, which a business can adapt for its own use.

The slides carry speaker notes. The exam pack includes an answer key and simulation notes for the facilitator, and a certificate template records training given by your organisation. AGS is independent and is not affiliated with the FDA. Regulations are referenced by citation.

What this course covers

  • Removal actions: the four action types and when each applies.
  • Classification and depth: Class I, II and III recalls, and how far down the chain a recall must reach.
  • The written plan: what a recall plan contains before it is needed.
  • The first hours: decisions, the team and the information package.
  • Communications: notices to customers, the trade and the public.
  • Effectiveness checks and reconciliation: proving the product came back.
  • The regulator's side and after the recall: what the authority expects, and the review that follows.
