Overview

This kit builds a sector-specific Halal Assurance System for animal feed under the HAS framework of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO), the regional standardization body of the Gulf Cooperation Council states. The framework asks for documented, self-sustaining internal discipline that safeguards Halal integrity continuously rather than at the moment of inspection, alongside the GSO 2055 series of product and certification standards. Feed is in scope because the permissibility of what animals eat supports the Halal status of the wider food chain.

The technical content follows the mill. Feed materials are assessed for permissibility, porcine derivatives, blood meal and other prohibited materials are excluded, and additives and premixes are controlled at source. Processed animal protein, tallow and rendered fats form the highest-risk stream and are verified consignment by consignment before release. Cross-contamination is tackled where it arises — intake, milling, mixing, pelleting and storage — through sequencing, flushing, cleaning and ritual cleansing, while formulations, suppliers and lots stay traceable throughout. An internal Halal committee owns the procedures, approves materials and suppliers, audits against GSO 2055-1, trains personnel and closes corrective actions between external assessments.

What this system covers

  • Feed material approval — permissibility assessment, renderer and supplier evaluation, documented approval before use
  • Animal by-product and fat control — processed animal protein, tallow and blood-derived materials verified against supplier declarations
  • Production control — dosing, mixing and pelleting worked to the approved formulation
  • Carry-over prevention — sequencing, flushing, cleaning and ritual cleansing between runs
  • Feed hygiene and contamination control across intake, milling and silo storage
  • Packaging, labelling and Halal mark control, through to dispatch and carrier inspection
  • Traceability of formulations and lots, non-conforming feed and recall
  • Internal Halal audit, management review, competence and new-formula change control

Who it's for

Quality and Halal coordinators in feed mills and premix plants supplying Gulf markets, who act when a certification body assessment is booked or an importer, integrator or regulator asks for evidence of Halal control. Edited to the mill's own layout and formulations, it gives the Halal committee a system to run daily and present at surveillance.
