Overview

This documentation set implements a sector-specific Halal Assurance System for warehousing, distribution and transport under the framework of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO), the regional standardisation body of the Gulf states. It is written for the company being audited rather than the body doing the auditing: the operator, cold store or haulier that holds and moves the goods.

The framework calls for a documented internal discipline that protects Halal integrity continuously rather than at inspection time, alongside the GSO 2055 series of product and certification standards. An internal Halal committee approves clients, suppliers and products, runs internal audits and closes corrective actions between external assessments. The controls then follow the goods: an acceptance gate decides what may enter, segregation rules keep Halal and non-Halal stock apart, seals and shipment documentation carry Halal identity onto the road, and ritual cleansing of equipment used for prohibited materials is recorded rather than assumed.

What this system covers

  • Inbound acceptance: client, supplier and product approval, with Halal-slaughter verification for meat and poultry
  • Segregated storage and stock control — dedicated zones, racking, container rules and daily site checks
  • Cold chain management for chilled and frozen holding, with out-of-limit stock routed to hold
  • Outbound loading and transport: vehicle inspection, co-loading limits, seals and delivery documentation
  • Cleaning and ritual cleansing of vehicles, equipment and surfaces
  • Site hygiene, pest control and good distribution practice, with traceability, holds, returns and recall support
  • Internal Halal audit, management review and change control for new clients, sites and vehicles

Who it's for

Third-party logistics operators, cold stores, distributors and hauliers moving Halal goods within or into GCC markets. Work usually starts when a Gulf importer asks how Halal integrity is protected in the warehouse and on the road, or when a certification body assessment against the applicable GSO standards is scheduled. After that the acceptance gate tells the goods-in clerk what may be booked in, the loading rules tell the loader what may share a vehicle, and the auditor is shown records made at the time.
