Twelve certification scopes, one Internal Halal Committee and a single document architecture behind all of them.
Overview
MS 1500:2019, Halal Food: General Requirements, is the reference standard for organisations trading into or aligning with the Malaysian halal regime. It does not carry the requirements meat and poultry operations must meet at the point of slaughter, so this system implements it together with the Malaysian Halal Protocol for Meat and Poultry Productions (2011), and slaughtering and slaughterman control hold a procedure and a daily record of their own.
The certification checklist folder is what makes the package unusual. Twelve scopes are covered, each with its own instrument: IHIA logistics, food services, laboratory testing, animal feeds and inputs, animal welfare, slaughtering and processing, cosmetics and personal care and hospitality services, together with MS 2424 halal pharmaceuticals, MS 2200 Parts 1 and 2 for Islamic consumer goods including animal bone, skin and hair, and MS 2300 value-based management. A single-scope operation uses one. A group running manufacturing, slaughter, catering, logistics and retail uses several, from one Internal Halal Committee and one numbering convention.
What this system covers
- Halal slaughtering and processing — slaughterman control and the 2011 Meat and Poultry Protocol
- Sertu (ritual cleansing) and sanitation — when it is triggered, how it is done and how it is recorded
- Raw material and supplier approval — halal certificate registers and evaluation before use
- Traceability, segregation and halal integrity — holding halal status from receipt to despatch
- Storage, transport and logistics — vehicle and storage inspection against contamination
- Packaging, labelling and certification mark control — where and how the halal logo is applied
- Internal Halal Committee and halal personnel — appointment, responsibility and internal audit
- Scope-by-scope certification readiness — one instrument for each scope you hold
Who it's for
Meat and poultry processors, food manufacturers, logistics providers and multi-scope food groups pursuing MS 1500 certification, Internal Halal Committee members and halal executives, and halal certification consultants. It earns its place when a group certifies more than one activity and cannot afford a separate system for each, leaving one committee and a readiness instrument for every scope it holds.
