Overview

This is a sector-specific Halal Assurance System for warehousing, distribution and transport under the United Arab Emirates national Halal scheme, following the UAE.S adoption of the GSO 2055 framework and coordinated through the Emirati standardisation and conformity authorities, which keeps national oversight in place while carrying acceptance across the wider Gulf. It suits businesses that store and move Halal goods rather than manufacture them: cold stores, ambient warehouses, freight forwarders and distributors.

The controls follow the goods. Storage requirements address dedicated or clearly segregated zones, racking rules and container controls that prevent contact between Halal and non-Halal consignments. Transport requirements cover co-loading decisions, subcontracted hauliers, and the cleaning evidenced before a Halal load is accepted, including ritual cleansing where a vehicle or item of equipment has carried prohibited materials. Identity is held through shipment documentation, seals and labelling, with traceability and recall along the chain. An internal Halal committee approves suppliers and goods, audits internally, trains staff and closes corrective actions between external assessments. Checks run against UAE.S GSO 2469:2021, UAE.S GSO 2055-1:2015 and UAE.S 993:2022.

What this system covers

  • Segregation and cross-contamination control — zoning, racking discipline and container rules on mixed-status sites
  • Supplier and consignment verification — approval, incoming integrity checks and certificate validation at receipt
  • Cleaning and ritual cleansing — vehicles, equipment and areas previously exposed to prohibited materials
  • Dispatch, transport and co-loading — load segregation checks, seals, shipment documents and subcontractor control
  • Identification, labelling and traceability — Halal identity from receipt to delivery, with recall tested
  • Storage conditions and cold chain — temperature logging, deviation handling and equipment calibration
  • Halal meat and animal products — the extra controls UAE.S 993:2022 places on these consignments

Who it's for

Written for warehouse operators, third-party logistics providers, cold stores and distributors handling Halal goods for the UAE and the wider GCC, and for the compliance managers who chair the internal Halal committee. It is bought when a certification body assessment or a customer's Halal requirement puts the logistics chain under scrutiny, and it leaves the operation with the procedures, records and audit evidence an assessment of the management system and product conformity calls for.
